Client: National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Mental Health
Industry: Federal Government
Project: Analysis of Integrated Resources
Product: Infor PM
Challenge: The mission of the Division of Intramural Research Programs (DIRP) at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is to plan and conduct research to advance understanding of the diagnosis, causes, treatment and prevention of mental disorders. To do this, the division studies brain function and behavior; conducts state-of-the-art research and exploits the special resources of the National Institutes of Health.
In order to effectively manage DIRP’s performance, the NIMH needed a way to strategically and tactically trace and manage resources assigned to the project. The challenge was that DIRP had nothing in place to centrally administer and accurately measure the total cost of its research activities.
Altum Answer: Altum worked with NIMH and DIRP key stakeholders and end users to integrate multiple source systems and manual processes into a new Analysis of Integrated Resources (AiR) system designed to centralize management and oversee and track allocation.
Altum’s Infor PM product solution was chosen because of its rapid deployment capabilities and the breadth and depth of features and functionality it could provide. The NIMH was also impressed with Infor PM’s existing customer base and the reception it had received.
Result: For the first time, NIMH and DIRP are able to accurately track and monitor human capital, facilities and other costs associated with each DIRP research project. The ability to automate processes and provide more timely and accurate information has enabled DIRP to:
- Proactively manage resources
- Perform detailed analysis of total cost of research
- Conduct comprehensive strategic planning
Today, AiR continues to support the NIMH’s efforts to understand and treat mental illness.
