Client: National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
Industry: Federal Government
Project: Research Initiatives Management System
Product: Infor PM
Challenge: Increased funding for bioterrorism research has allowed the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to grow substantially over the past five years. However, NIAID’s business processes were not keeping pace with the organization’s growth. The current systems were primarily spreadsheet-based and outdated technologically.
NIAID decided to investigate alternatives for integrating trans-NIAID strategic planning and financial management, which would bring their internal processes up to date and reflect both their growth and the latest technological innovations.
Altum Answer: Altum helped NIAID bring their processes up to date by introducing the organization to Infor PM’s powerful performance management capability. With Infor PM as the platform, NIAID launched an innovative Research Initiatives Management System (RIMS) that would greatly enhance their trans-organizational planning, implementation and management.
Result: Now NIAID accurately can identify expiring research projects and assess funding available for future reinvestment. NIAID no longer relies on a spreadsheet-based process that was prone to errors and time-consuming data reconciliation. The new system provides accurate and timely information, facilitates the strategic planning process and integrates information and processes from various departments. The system ensures that NIAID’s research dollars are directed to areas that will have the most impact.
