BCIG BRAINSTORMING
SESSION: "NIH’s Podcasting Needs - Addressed”
Clinical
Center (Building 10) Medical Board Room (Room 2C116)
DESCRIPTION: Our last brainstorming session
demonstrated very clearly that there is strong interest
in podcasting here at the NIH. We are therefore planning
a follow-up brainstorming session to address some of the
questions and topics that came up in the last session.
Can we better identify existing resources within the NIH
to make utilizing this technology a reality? What NIH
podcasts are already available? How can we help those
interested in beginning podcasting? These topics and
others that come up will be discussed.
PODCASTING BLOG: The enthusiastic response to the
last BCIG Podcasting Brainstorming session has inspired
the Scientific Computing Section in the NIH Clinical
Center to create a new (we)blog:
http://www.nihdatamine.net/podcast/ You are strongly
encouraged to leave comments on this blog. If you know
anything about blogging, why not create a new account
and help test out the functionality. You can upload
files and create your own stories and pages to share
with others. Please pass the link on to others within
the NIH and BCIG communities whom you think would be
interested.
PODCASTING: This refers to the distribution of
audio or video information files, such as radio
programs, audible books, and music videos for listening
and viewing on mobile devices and personal computers. A
podcast is an automatic download of audio or video files
placed on the Internet for anyone to subscribe to. The
subscription feed of *automatically* delivered new
content, is what distinguishes a podcast from a simple
download or real-time streaming content. The podcast
used together with a weblog, (a journal and bulletin
board like website), can create a powerful environment
for collaboration, discussion, and distribution of
information-targeted for interested parties.
