DESCRIPTION: The National Health Information Network (NHIN) is a Department of Health and Human Services initiative for specifying the standards, architecture, and methodology for securely and seamlessly exchanging and consolidating patient health information for improved medical care and more efficient delivery of medical services. The total costs of implementing this NHIN have been estimated between $200-300 billion with potential savings of $150-500 billion/year when fully implemented. To many, implementing a National Health Information Network seems impractical and unaffordable without new technologies and approaches that minimize the costs and time of integrating data and applications. A new technology that offers promise is called an Application Integration Platform (AIP). AIP allows geographically dispersed individuals to collaborate and share data structures, adapters, and application interfaces for the purpose of designing, testing, and implementing re-usable processes. The applications utilized can be written in any language and run on any computing environment. DQS Global, a Silver Spring company, has patented and developed an AIP that provides an easy to use interface for rapidly creating a library of re-usable data structures, application interfaces, and processes. In addition, their technology is designed to process data at the speed of applications, networks, and operating environments. John Walsh, Founder of DQS Global, will discuss how this new AIP technology can be used to economically build the integration framework for the National Health Information Network. Using AIP technology, John envisions that once this integration framework is built, that computer literate administrative staff could easily send their data from their computer to any other system in Network.

John Walsh, DQS Global, Inc.

John Walsh is Chairman and Founder of DQS Global, an innovative software company located in Silver Spring, MD. Prior to founding DQS Global five years ago, Mr. Walsh had a twenty year track record of pioneering new software products. In 2005, The US Patent & Trademark Office awarded DQS Global a rare expedited patent that is only issued to inventions in the national interest. In the past forty years, only ten companies have received this special treatment and distinction and DQS Global is the only software company. DQS Global patented technology, ROMEŽ, is an enterprise infrastructure system for integrating and managing data, applications, operating systems and hardware platforms on a global basis. ROMEŽ allows users to visually collaborate on the design, testing and implementation of distributed computing processes in which the users, data, and applications can be located anywhere. Mr. Walsh is the recipient of numerous awards for his successful pioneering efforts, most recently a Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Award in 2003 and a Federal Emerging Technologies Innovation Award in 2004. Mr. Walsh received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science & Philosophy from Brown University.
