Altum will work with the Electronic Research Administration to implement Knowledge Management technology at National Institutes of Health

Reston, VA. June 13, 2005 — Altum, Inc. announced today that it has been tasked under the SAIC Software Development contract for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Electronic Research Administration (eRA) to develop and implement the Knowledge Management for Disease Coding (KMDC) system. The KMDC system promises a more efficient, consistent method across NIH for coding centrally-collected diseases and funding amounts. Additional benefits of KM technology include:  tools for grant reviewer selection, portfolio analysis, and scientific collaboration. In particular, a technology called Collexis® will be implemented to generate over 400 Disease Category reports that are submitted to Congress on an annual basis.  Examples of Disease Categories are:  Depression, Aging, Sleep Disorders, and Cancer Research.

The Electronic Research Administration (eRA) is part of NIH’s Office of Extramural Research and is responsible for NIH’s infrastructure for conducting interactive electronic transactions for the receipt, review, monitoring, and administration of NIH grant awards to biomedical investigators worldwide. The NIH Offices of Budget and Extramural Research have been tasked with providing transparency, consistency, and robustness in NIH's reporting of disease funding.

The SAIC-led team will provide a system of production quality design and development using the strength of the team’s combined expertise in application development and grants management.

David Mayer, Altum’s director of business intelligence and knowledge management solutions commented that, “Altum is excited about working on this project with NIH to implement a state-of-the-art solution for the NIH post-award grants management scientific reporting process. We look forward to combining Altum’s disease coding and post-award grants management expertise to deliver an outstanding solution.”

About Altum, Inc.

Every day, Altum helps organizations monitor, measure, analyze, and improve their business by giving them control over their data. We are a professional software development and consulting firm that builds solutions with an understanding that the true benefits our clients reap come from being able to quickly access, analyze, and make informed decisions from the data locked up in corporate data stores. Too often, enterprise systems are developed to merely process transactions and get information into corporate databases. Most do not allow users to easily get the information they need out. Altum solves this problem by developing systems with query and reporting capabilities in mind. Our customers are delighted by cost-effective, high quality software solutions delivered on-time, on-budget, and with unparalleled customer service. Altum's commitment to integrity is the reason 90% of our revenue is repeat business.

Altum's Information Enhancement Suite of software products includes: the Collection Module™, a system for the automated collection of data submissions by any number of users to a centralized database; the Analysis Module™, a tool for safe end user categorization and annotation of database records in order to enhance the records’ usefulness to that user and to facilitate easy subsequent retrieval of that data; the Query Module™, a tool for the point-and-click generation of SQL queries by inexperienced end users; and the Search Module™, a free-text search engine that permits end users to slice and dice results with point-and-click commands.  In addition, Altum offers the Altum Professional Development Tool™ for employee evaluations and professional development; as well as AltumMedigent™, a robust content management system and online collaboration tool.
