The Office of Dietary Supplements, National Institutes of Health chooses Altum Inc. for public website support and systems integration with the National Library of Medicine's PubMed database
Chantilly, VA. August 18, 2003 - The Office of Dietary Supplements at the National Institutes of Health has chosen Altum, Inc. to provide technical support, maintenance services, and enhancements for their internal grants coding and reporting system, and a public website called Computer Access to Research on Dietary Supplements (CARDS). This includes a significant enhancement to link CARDS to the National Library of Medicine's (NLM's) PubMed - a database of indexed journal citations and abstracts that covers nearly 4,500 journals published in the United States and more than 70 other countries.
The purpose of the CARDS internal system and public website is to provide information on research in the areas of dietary supplements and individual nutrients currently being supported by the Federal government. Using this database, reports can be generated to determine the focus areas of dietary supplement research, as well as identify which agencies of the Federal government and Institutes of the NIH are supporting this research. This information is useful to the U.S. Congress, agencies of the Federal government, and the NIH Institutes for budgetary considerations. In addition, the database provides useful information for researchers, health care providers, industry, and the public.
