DHHS Food and Drug Administration Selects Altum for Grants Management System Migration Support

Reston, VA. October 8, 2003 - Altum, Inc. today announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has selected Altum to provide expertise and assistance in preparing the system migration plan for the transition to the NIH Electronic Research Administration (eRA) enterprise system for research grants management.

By using the NIH as a service provider for research grants management, FDA will contribute to the Department of Health and Human Service's (DHHS's) ability to:

•  Streamline work processes to provide improved services to citizens
•  Capitalize on existing advanced technology and best practices
•  Create an opportunity for cost-effective, intra-agency sharing and elimination of redundant spending
•  Provide a single point of interface with Grants.gov and the HHS Unified Financial Management System
•  Maintain reliable and common data across HHS Operating Divisions (OPDIVs)
•  Simplify the implementation of new policies and regulations

As a first step in achieving the consolidation, each grant-making OPDIV must prepare a system migration plan by October 31, 2003. Altum will partner with to FDA to analyze the current FDA Grants Processing business workflow, document the FDA systems currently used to process grants, and provide a plan to migrate FDA systems and processes to the appropriate NIH eRA enterprise grants management systems.

"Altum looks forward to providing FDA with experience and expertise in migrating systems and processes to the NIH eRA enterprise grants management systems," announced Ken Fang, President and CEO of Altum, Inc. "We have been providing similar systems and support to many Institutes and Centers at NIH, and we are excited that we can also help the OPDIVs with a quick and cost-effective migration strategy."
